Ghetto ways of removing flared tube fasteners?

Before I call the ladies, I wanted to get your opinion first... let's say you live in a small urban place without any machinery to do anything properly. But at least you have a Dremel rotary tool and some basic things like hammers and screwdrivers and, of course, knives.

How would you remove the flared tube fasteners on your Busses?

I'm looking for a knife without any scales on it, but I kind of doubt Busse will sell me one because of their quality standards. Guess I'll find out when they open up the office, but in case they don't, I'm wondering how you'd remove those fasteners. No drill presses here, just git-er-done methods.

Thanks

I've used a standard hand held Power drill before ( I have a cordless one that works as well) with a 1/4 inch bit on it, just be carefull ( its easy to turn a handle mod into a sharp, spinning trip to the emergency room!) Wrap the blade in a towel a few times and secure the whole thing, either clamps or even a piece of wood with screws put in along the outline of the knife.

And drill through with the labeled side up....so if it does spin loose, you get the spine of the blade (not the sharpened edge) as the leading edge. :p

Thanks! Now, time to find the right drill bit. All I have in that size are masonry and wood spade bits.
Jroden, I saw your KZ mod and it looks really, really good. I'm working on a mod now with wood and pins, and they're pretty fussy to deal with. I couldn't really appreciate your mod until now.

This too!

Thanks man, feel free to PM me if I can help at all with any questions, good luck

I have only used a drill press and a punch.

If you don't care about the handles do whatever. If you do care, make sure you use cutting fluid, sharp bits and go slow. Or you chance melting the handles around the fastener. All you have to do is get the flared section drilled off of one side, then I think it was a 1/4 punch to knock it out.

For knocking it out, get a piece of 2x4 and drill a hole larger then the flared fastener and punch it out into the hole.

A harbor freight/yard sale drill press at 50.00 to 100.00 will save you a lot of heart ache and potential hand ache :)

just saying.

If that is not an option, a sharp chamfer bit for metal would work also, and tends not bite as hard as a drill bit.

good luck and stay safe.

All great ideas, but I think I'm gonna have to go with Dave's suggestion. It's just the easiest for me since there are chamfer bits for Dremel, and the workstation I have has a ghetto drill press.
Thanks, Mr. Brown
