I received the khuk that I ordered the other day. Uncle Bill had it listed as "a ghopte?" I'm not sure what it is...sort of looks like a hybrid between a ghopte, AK and WWII. I guess that really makes it one of a kind. But the real story is the scabbard...WOW! Talk about well done and classy. I have not received a scabbard as nice as this one. The person who made this really knows what they're doing. I wonder if someone new is making scabbards for the kamis? The other scabbards I have are good, but this one is just way far and above in quality, IMO. And I like the look of the brown leather. Does anyone else have this type of scabbard? I guess it's buffalo?

As a side note: I mentioned the other day that I ordered an 18" Chitlangi for a young man stationed on the DMZ and that what I received was a beautiful 15 oz. blade by Bura. It hit me while driving home yesterday that the blade was not made by Bura, but rather Sher. I checked it out as soon as I got home and sure enough. This is the first khuk I've seen by Sher and now I know what everyone is always talking about. I should have guessed when the handle really fit my hand. Bura's handles are sometimes on the small side for me. I am going to make an effort to see more of Sher's work. We all have our favorites, but he ranks right up there IMO.

Sounds like a neat khuk, Ben. :) Sounds like the sarkis need to stick to that sheath material. You'll need to let us know how the khuk does chopping.
:)

I have the brown leather sheath on my Berk Special dui chirra. It's superb.

Probably the nicest looking khuk & scabbard I've got is my 10" New Model/BDC (known as a "non-khukuri" by some due to it's small size). The scabbard is done in that nice brown leather y'all are talking about, and the chape is beautifully done in that mysterious substance known as "white metal".:D

I'll second everything Sarge had to say there...I LOVE my 10inch NM, and it really does have a nice scabbard. :)

I'm glad some of you all have had the chance to experience this leather. We have a lot of leather stores (and companies) here in El Paso and you can find anything. This ranks right up there with some of the best cow hide....in fact, now that I think of it, it reminds of some of the nicest, toughest boots I've had...they were made out of mule hide. Very supple and very tough.

Red, I will take a digital camera home and get some shots and then try and download them here at the school. I haven't posted pics before so it may take me a couple of days. :D

in nice brown leather, as well.

Others are in nice black leather,

except the one in nice denin---

Oh, and the one in pink naugahyde with sparkles and a scent atomizer.

The fishnet just disappeared on the black sheaths, is subtle on the brown, but the PINK...well, my dear....!!!

I'd forgotten about the brilliant yellow sheaths/scabbards that came through! I was inventing the pink one...really...honest, hey now...I WAS!:)

You are doing hip work this week, yes?

I'll light another candle. Hang in.:)

Thanks for the extra candle, Kis. I have done pretty good this week. Walking is not too much of a problem. Getting up after sitting awhile is another story. My doc has me taking liquid glucosemine and condrotine (I know the spelling is off)and I have to say that I really think it's making a diffence in my mobility. I highly recommend it...no kidding.

One thing about a pink scabbard...the khuk inside better be really tough looking.:D
