I just finished reading a new SciFi book "The War With Earth" by Leo Frankowski and Dave Grossman. It's pretty good. It is mainly about super intelligent tanks and their human operators. Sort of like Bolo's or Hammer's Slammers type tanks. The story is kind of lighthearted, but it is entertaining. Earth is the bad guys and the good guys are from the outlying colonies. There are two really good parts to this book. One is the dirty tricks the good guys play on the bad guys, when they take over the enemies command and control computer. Some of the tricks are inspired, really ingenious.
The other is when a group of Ghurka troops switches sides and joins with the good guys. They are placed into the super intelligent tanks, who are equipped with 12 meter long humaniod manipulator arms, as well as lasers and rail guns. The Ghurkas, who all carry their own khuks, handed down for generations, come up with the bright idea to equip their tanks with giant, 6 meter long khuks with a pure diamond edge a few hundred atoms thick. Wouldn't you like to see that. This actually comes in extremely handy for a mission they get to end the war.
This is an entertaining book, not great fiction. The Ghurkas do figure prominently at the end of the book and it's a pretty easy read.
