I inherited, what I believe is a display knife from the New York Company. Closed, the knife is 11 inches long. There are two blades. I have 2 questions, I'm hoping some knowledgeable person can answer. Using a damp cloth, I removed some green waxy substances (see pictures). By doing this, did I devalue the knife? Is this a collectable item? Thank you.

The "green waxy substances" is something called verdigris, it's a type of corrosion. If all you removed was the verdigris then no, you didn't affect the value of the knife.

Some general advice- it's a good idea to determine exactly what you have before performing any type of cleaning. And then if it turns out that you have something valuable, seek out a professional to do the job to avoid reducing, or ruining the value.

Is it one of these? This is a New York Knife Co. display knife. Closed length is 11". If it is, don't do anything else to it. If it needs further cleaning, find a professional (ask here).
