Giant hole in BladeHQ exclusive CF skyline?

Alright, so I just received my carbon fiber skyline from BladeHQ and proceeded to take it apart to clean out the factory grease, clean it up and put in my own lube as I do with most of my production knives. Upon taking it apart, I noticed a giant hole drilled in the blade under the pivot hole. This hole is even bigger than the pivot hole and I know this isn't normal in the standard skyline as I have taken apart many standard skylines. My main concern is that the edge of the hole comes EXTREMELY close to the detent ball track, so close I think over time, this may cause some serious problems in the action of the knife. I don't know if this is normal for the carbon fiber exclusive so I'd like to know if anyone else has the same problem before I contact BladeHQ about this.

Wtf lol. That's really odd. Maybe it's milling for weight or balance or you just got a very special one. Idk I don't own one but that's pretty odd.

It's almost like they've drilled it wrong, and instead of wasting a blank just re-drilled and hoped no one would disassemble? Beats me. I'm just throwing out thoughts here.

I've heard of companies drilling extra holes in blades to designate that they are different steels. Maybe this was how they separated the S30V Skyline blade from the 14C28N blade in the factory?

I'll admit, that hole is pretty big.

Id say call kai, im guessing a cs rep could pretty easily clear it up. I've never seen them to be the type of company that would be like "oh shoot we drilled the hole wrong, just redrill it.... they wont notice LOL"

It is pretty close to the detent, but I couldn't see it presenting any issues in the future. I don't think the detent will wear the blade down to where it "falls" in the hole.

That's just my opinion.

No worries. it was explained pretty well in the thread linked by NeilB.

Probably used for location in the machine that does the flat grinding? There might be an advantage to having a well where the lubricant can collect.
