Just got my GCB a few days ago.

I've had 2 20" AKs and have been impressed.

But this: Yowza!

You can't appreciate how massive/impressive and any other superlatives describe what I now call Samson. He's on par with the Giant AK - Godzilla. If my camera worked, I'd get pix of the two together.

why do they alter the mirror finish near the hilt to a satin finish? i've noticed they do this on a number of the khukris but not all. curious thing.

It's traditional I think, and I believe they do it to remove any laha that may have squeezed out onto the blade from the handle or bolster. I think it's attractive.

They don't all do it every time, but Sgt. Khadka does it on all his blades, running the buffer cross grain so to speak, after polishing the blade lengthwise.
