gibbs maxx photos?

7 inch blade:confused:

Not very practical IMHO. The handle would have to be7+ inches to accomodate the blade. While a fixed blade handle would only need to be long enough to accomodate the users hand.

I'm in no way putting down the maker, he makes wonderful knives. But the knife in question causes me to wonder at what point does bigger stop being better.

I'd like to see it too.

SAK -- supposedly, the knife is a limited run, and was done as sort of a joke. Hell, I'd buy one though. :D

SwissArmyKnives, you're right, it was a bit too big to be truly practical. I tried putting it in a front pocket, and it wouldn't quite seat in the whole way. IWB wasn't too good either. As bladefan said though, it's not really intended to be an EDC, although Will on the Camillus forum claims that a member of the Camillus shop carries his all the time  . He must have monstrous pockets.

Phil Gibbs is the guy from Camillus who carries his. He had his pants tailored just so he could carry them!

Darrel said he made the Gibbs after Phil was giving him a hard time about the 5.5" MM not being big enough. So, Darrel made the 7.125" Gibbs!

I have one and it is impressive! Is it practical? I guess that is subjective. At least one person thinks it is. Heck, from what I've seen on the Forums, most of the knives we buy aren't for a practical purpose, so why not a 7" folder?

It would actually make a good fighter/self defense blade. The long blade along with the long handle gives excellent reach. While it will definetly make slashing cuts, it seems to be a better thrust oriented knife.

Oh, by the way, Darrel has rumored that he will be making a folding 12" knife!

Bladefan - I will make a scan of mine and e-mail it to you. I can't post pics.

It is really gigantic. By looking at the handle I realized it would definatly NOT fit in my pocket.

I got mine from Darrel right before Blade. It fits fine in my pockets. I've been carrying a 5.5" Aftermath, and I also have a Big Ass Cujo and a Brad Duncan Monster Max.

Is it practical to carry what amounts to a two-handed pocket-knife? For me, sure, but your mileage may vary. Actually I'd think the blade shape more than the size would have an impact on it's day to day utility. I've tried carrying the dagger blades, but absent the need to punch holes in kevlar, I've found their shape a little frustrating to use in comparison to, say, Darrel's EDC recurve or the modified spearpoint my version of the Gibbs has.

Phil Gibbs actually carries two of them.

Gabe, I got the 5.5 version of yours. I picked it up right before Blade. Darrel had a good laugh when I started cussing him for selling the Ironwood Gibbs. He laughed even harder when he saw my reaction that you were the one who bought it. All I said was, "I should have known!:( ;)

Good score!

In fact, I spent almost all of my Blade show money on his knives!

hubba hubba hubba thats one sweet knife, Oh well credit cards are meant to be maxed out right :D :D :D

Bladefan - That's a shot of the DDR custom. Base price is about $800 on the custom. I think the price on the Camillus version will be a MSRP of about $300-$350.

It will have the same frame as the current CUDA Maxx, but it will have a spear point blade as you see in the picture.

Not always true... my brother has a cheap folding bowie with a ten inch blade and a six inch handle. :D Because of that, the knife has to be carried in a sheath, which kind of defeats the purpose of a folder, but the thing's a piece of crap so it doesn't have much of a purpose in the first place.

So are you saying its practical or not? lol.

I wasn't saying either, actually, I was just nitpicking at the statment that the handle of a folding knife would have to be at least as long as the blade. Back on subject, though, I think such a folder can be practical depending on the person, but it definately isn't for everyone.

Well, the word "practical" as used in the statements above is relative anyway.

It wouldn't be practical to prune roses with it. It wouldn't be practical to peel an apple with. But it would be practical to slash someone across the face and a reasonable distance with.
