Gibraltar Gun and Knife Shows

I just attended the Gibraltar Gun and Knife Show this weekend in Mount Clemens Michigan. I was disappointed as there were only two custom knife makers and three knife vendors with a limited selection.
Does anyone know of other "knife" shows in the lower Michigan (Detroit) area that are worthwhile?

Kevin, the Wolverine Custom Knife Show is coming up at the end of January. Current schedule is Friday, January 28th and Saturday the 29th, 2K, at the Novi Expo Center at I-96 and Novi Road. Show hours are listed as 9 am to 6 pm both days. I know, it's strange for a Friday/Saturday show without the Sunday as well, but who knows the reason behind the scheduling.

I'm just glad that it's coming up soon, because as you found out, the custom knife scene in the Metro Detroit area is pretty slim pickings. Even finding higher-end production dealers are hard, and the G&K shows are probably, and unfortunately, the best bet.

Don't even wonder if there are any stores that might carry anything like a cool variety of production and custom stuff, because I haven't found them either.

A good friend of mine from Windsor will be there with his blades,, ask for him ..Jeff Diotte..
He will also be sporting some of my rigs as well...
I'll probably drop in for a look around myself....

I'm looking forward to the Wolverine show this month, I think it's the only knife only show I remember seeing here. Hope to see some of you guys in person

. There is also an Antique Arms show going on at the same place on the 29&30 (According to Novi Expo info). It's a good place to check out a lot of vintage Marbles knives as well as war related knives and swords. There are usually one or two G&K shows at the Novi Expo Center each year with at least 6-8 custom makers showing their talents. I also see a whole bunch of pamphlets at these shows advertising other show in Michigan and other areas.

Gibraltar is getting too lame nowadays after all the problems a couple years ago. I don't think dealers and makers want to deal with that hassle of going there anymore.

Take care,
Tom

Tom, last time I checked, the G&K show(s) at Novi were cancelled by the promoter after Novi Expo Center's management knee-jerked about the "gun show" hysteria spread through the mainstream media. He still has shows about bi-monthly throughout the state (the last one I caught was at the Livingston County Fairgrounds, a very good show), but I can't recall the best way to find the schedule. Perhaps a net search for "gun shows + michigan" or a glance through a Shotgun News will give a better lead than I can furnish now.

If any forum member shows up, then wear your Bladeforums T-shirt, (you did get one when you subscribed for the online magazine, didn't you?). I'll have mine, so if you see me, give a shout.

Don, that's a bummer about the G&K show at Novi, I was hoping they had the guts to keep open. The last one I went to was early last year. I was wondering why there wasn't one in fall or one on the schedule comming up soon. I'll find out from one of the dealers or makers when the Livingston County show comes to town. Thanks for the heads up.

And yes, I did get my T-shirt for the mag subscription (Thanks Mike), so I'll either wear that or my BF Native and neck sheath.

Have a good one.

Take care,
Tom
