This guy sent his own piece of Gidgee from Australia for me to use on his knife.
I wish a had a whole box of this stuff.

The blade is W2 and the take-down fittings are stainless.

I like it when W1 or W2 sort of "sneak" in their own little bits of hamon quite unexpectedly. There are at least 6 pieces of hamon on this side that were a complete surprise.

Wow, that's great Karl, that wood is awesome, and the hamon came out great too. Was the wood stabilized?

GOOD lookin hunter....Nice wheel gun too....Looks like a Colt...

Great lookin knife Karl. Nice piece of Ringed Gidgee, my favourite Australian hardwood after Buloke.
Cheers Keith

This baby is coming home to me. ;) Dave Sharp has a set of scales from the same tree that i sent him to use on a classic loveless dropped hunter.

Keith have you used any tasmanian blackwood for knife handles? probably not as hard as the gidgee but can look so nice.

Wow ! Nice lookin strumming thing ! ( sorry I'm a sticks wielder ) Tassie blackwood is a bit soft for my likeing, ( maybe if you could get it stabilised ? ) I have a swag of Gidgee that was felled, maybe 80 years ago, it does not need to be stabilised! Hard as the hobs, the bandsaw hates it! Buloke is the hardest timber in the world, got some on the way from the same region, also cut long ago. Cant wait for that! Talk about cutting carbon fibre Ha!
Cheers Keith

Good lookin' knife Karl! Nice hamon and wood. The wheel-gun makes a good background...just picked up a 357 Ruger Blackhawk, and lovin' it! Ben

I like tasmanian black wood and have used it on a few kitchen knives.

Nice knife Karl. Gidgee is beautiful wood. I have a block I got a few years ago and I've been saving it as it seems harder and harder to find.

Hi Bill , you wouldn't have got that piece of Tassy blackwood from Mark at Burlsource would you. It kind of looks familia, like some I sent him a few years ago with some Ringed Gidgee. As others have said it is softer than Gidgee, most woods are, but it does just fine if dried well or stabolised. Keith you are lucky to have a supply , seems like fewer people are cutting it now. Would love to see your Buloak on a knife.
Cheers Adam Parker
