Gift card that needs to be spent, with a catch...

So I recieved a $200 gift card for Amazon for my birthday in March...and I have no idea what to do with it. I would be more than willing to add some cash, and even possibly more than double this amount, up to around $500 for the limit, but I honestly don't know what to get at all, and my ability to trust Amazon is probably about the same as most other people who have been in this hobby for long enough.

So, I am open to suggestions. Keep in mind that I usually carry what some people would call very expensive knives, with my cheapest regular EDC being a Sebenza 25, but I also would be more than willing to put this towards something that is not necessarily a knife as well.

The only thing I know I want to buy lately is a new set of strops, with good quality leather that is a little thinner and a harder base than the ones I have right now, because they are perfect for convex edges, but not as good for v-ground bevels, and I need some that would work better for that.

Other than that, I love knives in general, and certainly don't have to spend a boatload of cash to enjoy a good design and a good steel from a reliable company/dealer.
I also love things other than knives like pens (titanium is king), multi-tools, and other general tools and gadgets, so just let me know what you guys think!

If you find something that looks good, please make sure it is available from an Amazon directed dealer, since I would like to make sure I am getting the actual product that I purchase of course, and I don't like getting cheated any more than anyone else ;)

You dont have to spend it all in one go.
They have lots of non knife stuff you might need anyways.
Never heard of fake diapers or cereal for example. :)

If I were in your position I'd probably add a bit of cash and pick up an edge pro 4 or a bunch of little non-knife tools for around the shop.
I'd be wary about purchasing a high end knife there.
Happy searching!

You're definitely right. I am honestly 100% secure on my regular spending right now though, so I can't really find much that is advantageous for me to buy on Amazon as opposed to just getting through my regular routes.
This is sort of just something for fun, so I wanted to have some opinions was all. If nothing really peaks my fancy, I'll probably do just what you've said :)

Also an excellent suggestion. I'm not going to be buying a high-end knife personally either. If there was something that was a little more secure that required the extra funds, like the Edge Pro you mentioned, then I wouldn't mind it for sure though.

I like the idea of tools around the shop. I don't need many tools right now, but that certainly doens't mean there aren't some that would be useful for me. If you have specific recomendations in mind for tools or brands to look at, let me know for sure so I can check them out!

Titanium hinderer pen.

OH, good one!
I have been intersted in one of those for a while, but I'll have to look around and see if there is a reliable source for it. Might not make the final list, but I like that idea a lot.

Well here's my amazon wish list now:
-3m 7500 respirator with new cartridges
-New buffing wheels and compound
-drill doctor 500x
-SiC grit for paper wheels
-quikclot sponge
-Israeli battle dressing

Several new kitchen knives from spyderco are available as well. I'd like to try those out.

So many possibilities. Rather than buy something because you have the card though, I'd reccomend waiting until the next time you want/need something and then checking if they have it.

There are some things on your list that interest me though, the kitchen knives and the buffing wheels in perticular. You are likely right in telling me to wait, and I am in no rush to purchase anything on this.

I simply tend to forget the things I want after long enough, and sometimes need suggestions so I can be reminded, and so I can learn of what I want that I didn't know about yet ;)

If I find something that is an actual need for me, it will of course overide anything that I have wanted off of Amazon, but a large part of the reaso I posted this is because I have had this money sitting in my Amazon account for more than a month now, and have found very little that I need, or that truly peaks my interest enough, to spend the money on.

I am forutunate to have no needs that I know of right now that I don't have handled financially, and my personal appettite for knives has been largely satiated at the time too, thus my conundrum right now :D

Maybe try some less expensive knives or brands you haven't tried in the past? For example if you aren't into traditionals, maybe try a Case (if they are available there)? If you dig moderns, maybe a less expensive but capable Ontario, like a Rat 1 or Utilitac? Or maybe a SAK model you haven't picked up before? You could kind of go nuts low end too this way. Just a thought :).

Do you have a good set of Wiha Torx Drivers? Every knife nut should imo...

I couldn't recommend this one enough:thumbup: It has sizes T5-T10 and all the bits store in the butt-cap. I keep one in the house, and one in the car. That's about $60 alone right there!

Oh yeah, I forgot about those!
I need to look at those sets more. I have some field drives and a couple of other standard sets, but they really aren't that up to snuff when it comes to some of my more expensive knives.

They really are worth the extra cash. The bits fit very snug on well-made screws, just don't use it for cheap screws. The hardened bits will strip right through soft steel.

I like to buy books from amazon with free shipping from amazon prime membership.
Also a wicked edge system might be a good score from there, if they sell it.

-a nice watch
-a good caliper
-a PS4
-a really nice drill
-a grill for summer
-a good piece of jewelry
-a wallet
-shoes/boots
-a tv

I could go on forever. :)

You definitely reminded me a few things that I put on the back burner a long time ago!

I already managed to get my PS4, but hey, a few good games might be good...if anyone would actually make any. That's a different topic though...

I might have to look out for some watches or a good TV though honestly. I have a decent TV right now, but it's way too small to be able to proficiently play games on. Not terrible for watching TV, but I've pretty much entirely stopped even watching TV lately except for a few shows.
I might even look to see if I can find a large monitor that can output in 1080p so I can just have my desktop and PS4 both run off of it.
Either way, thanks for the idea!

If I had an extra $200, with option to add in another $200-300, I'd probably buy a Cold Steel Katana! Really...

I've been buying pocket knives for so long, and I've not yet bought something "Just for the heck of it!" It would be really cool to have something to swing around in the yard, every once in a while, and while there really is no practical purpose, I would enjoy playing around with something like that.

Of course, this is the kid in me wanting to be a Ninja. Who out there doesn't secretly want a Ninja Sword!?! :D

For practical purchases, yeah, I guess you could buy a new Spyderco Kitchen knife, or diapers, or a bench grinder, or a new stereo for your car, or books, or CDs or something actually USEFUL.

But Why?!? Get something FUN and Totally USELESS! Live a little, and Feed your inner kid.

At this point that's exactly the idea ;)

But like I said, I'm going to take as much time as I can on this before I really make any decisions, that way I know that what I get is what I really want to get.

I like the idea of the sword...but I might have one or two too many of those already...or four......yeah :D
Only have one from Cold Steel though...maybe it could use a friend? ;)

But you're also right! Whoe DOESN'T want to be a ninja?! I mean, hell, they get all of the cool toys! ;) :D
