So I've been searching the forums and I have been seeing a lot a really nice pieces, and some very creative custom knives- but here is the thing. For those of you who know OldPhysics he is my father, and I have been trying to look for an inexpensive knife he would really like. So please- if you know him or have an idea of a Busse hogs preferences i'd love to hear them.

Hey there! I know OP and Homeseller. Jamie has spoken very highly of you at Blade:thumbup:

Thats a tough question since Jamie has so many fine knives. He may like a mid sized Swiss Army Knife ??? Most can find a use for those.

I hope its not going to be a suprice, because I'm sure you know he'll see this thread:p. Unless you ask him not to open the thread...he's the type that wouldn't if you asked, and he would mean it. Your lucky to have such a great dad, and I'm sure he'll love anything you pick out:thumbup:

BTW, what is your $ range? inexpensive doesn't mean the same to all here.

Tops i can go is 300, im still a student and besides- OP would find out anywho, he always seems to know what im up to. : )

:rolleyes:I'm your father, dear. That's part of my job.

However, you have my word not to return to this Thread. Happy hunting.

[You do know that a hug will always be enough.]

Not sure if he already has a small CRK Sebenza, but I'm pretty sure he would love one if he doesn't. There a bit over $300 though, but less than $350 for a plain.

Bob Dozier make's a really great knife and the best kydex sheath IMO. 14 month wait from Bob, but AG Russell stocks some at Bobs price. They have a Coral micarta "Straight Personal" in stock for $195 plus shipping.
The blade is a bit under 3" and it's a fine little knife. I have one, and I'm pretty sure Jamie would like it. The "Slim Outdoorsman" and "Canoe" are two more Dozier's they should have in stock at AG, and are great little knives for about the same price.

Tom Krein is another maker I think he would like.

+1 on the highlighted portion. You might want to give Tom a call. I bet he could hook you up with something. Tom would also know if/what your dad may have ordered from him in the past. I'd suggest a nice TK-1 necker...something dear 'ol dad can have with him all the time......Tom could also guide you through picking a nice handle material for it. IIRC, that would run you about $210 for the knife in D2 with kydex. Tom's contact info is here:

It is best to call him, he usually doesn't have much time for PMs and emails.
You can see a nice selection of his work here:

Here are three suggestions that are luxurious and refined yet very usable, and chances are really low that your dad has any of these:

Perhaps one of these recently introduced and very refined Mcustas:

I suggest this because there is a good chance that he doesn't have a Mcusta yet, and almost certainly not one of these.

And here's another good, perhaps even better suggestion: Klötzli from Switzerland is a rare yet very high quality brand. As precisely made as a Sebenza and that's no exaggeration, but somewhat more gentlemen-like. $235 at AG Russel for a titanium-handled Sarra is really quite ok, and chance is very low that he has one:

Or a well-made and incredibly pretty "gentlemen" backlocking laguiole from Fontenille Pataud, for example this one with horn tip handle:

Give Ray Kirk a call. Get OP one of his folding Scagel designs.
Trust me on this one. I know your dad.

If those are high drop me a line and I will be glad to help out with other suggestions.

the laguiole looks really nice, and so do the Ray Kirk pieces. These are definitely along the lines of things he likes
