Gift for a Marine in Iraq

My Sister wants to buy a folder for her son, in Iraq. He liked the Strider SnG, but it's too much for her budget I suggested that she look at the Buck Strider, but then maybe he'd be better with something like a Spyderco Military. I have the Military, and the Strider, but have never handeled the Buck Strider.
Any suggestions as to which one?

Maybe both of you can swing the Strider SnG, considering that that's what he wanted? I know that it's steep, but I think he might be the best judge of what he thinks he needs to do his job.

That said, I haven't heard bad things about the buck/strider.

Hope that helps. :o

I would do that, if I hadn't just spent so much on armor plates for him. He needed the extension that covers the lower back.

How about a Manix?

It's an outstanding, tough knife and retails for around $100. It has a great size, awesome blade geometry and strong lock.

Does he have a multi-tool? From reading here and on other forums, multi-tools see more use over there than a knife alone. If he has a good tool already, go for a good folder next. Spyderco and Benchmade have several good folders in the more affordable price range than a custom.

I second that.

I'll bet the Manix would do just right.
I never held a manix, but hear that it's a little beefier than the mili.
Thanks! I'll tell her to get the Manix!
Oh, yes. He has a Gerber Multi-tool, an EB-LS Strider and a Cold Steel Safe Keeper. I don't know how much more weight he can handle, but he wants something in his pocket. I think he can handle the Manix.
