Gift for a soldier

I wanted to share a project I have been working on. I met a soldier in Oct. of 09 on a flight home. We chatted a little and I gave him my card. i told him to check out my website and see if there was anything he lliked. If not, let me know what he was looking for and I would make it for him, at no cost to him. A small token of thanks.

Well, he didn't see anything on my site. I asked for a design from him and this is whet we came up with. 6" blade, double edged, with serrations and finger grooves on the handle. I am not a big fane of finger grooves. I have only made a couple of knives with finger grooves, but not this pronounced. I had several people with varying hand sizes try the handle. They all said it was very comfy. Whew!

The knife is D2, 6" double edged, bead blasted blade, with serrations. The handle is bead blast canvas Micarta. The sheath is functional, but now great. I told him I was not a great sheath maker and I would get one made for him by someone who really knew what they were doing. He said, from what he could see, the sheath was fine, no worries. The knife isn't anything crazy or earth shattering. It is ajust a straight forward design.

The knife is finally on it's way! This project really made me feel good. My plan is to gift a knife to a soldier I meet at least once a year.

This made me feel so good, I wanted to share. Thanks for looking.

Mods. I was unsure of where to post this.

Looks good! Awesome gesture on your part!:thumbup:

Wow, great work, that's a beautiful blade! I think a little jimping up top would be nice addition if you decided to make another one.

But out of curiosity, was the soldier with the 101st?

Thank you, everyone!

VR4, good call on the jimping.

He is 82nd. I don't currently have permission to post his name. If possible, I will post some type of picture of him and knife in the future.

D'oh... 82nd, that's what I meant when I saw you were in NC. Hopefully he never has to put it to use in theater, but I'll bet that's gonna be a great security blanket.

Do you have any plans to produce more?

I greatly respect anyone who supports our soldiers. Awesome jesture, hope to see the pics.

Thats a very nice looking knife, looks very functional as well. And as said, a very nice gesture.

I'm not big on finger grooves myself, but I can see why yours work: the handle is thick enough to support them. Otherwise, they dig into my fingers.

The knife itself is a good, serious, straightforward design, and your generosity is outstanding!

Nice looking knife and sheath I'm sure he will put it to good use that was a very good thing you did.

THANKS

Nice gesture and I'm sure he will be thrilled to have it. I guarantee his friends will have knife envy because of your outstanding work.

Thank you everyone! This project really does make me feel good. And I'm glad it had a positive impact on everyone. Thank you again

VR4 - Actually, I am planning on making this knife a standard. Except, I won't be adding the finger grooves as standard. There are a few more tweaks, but pretty much this same knife.
