I don't know much about knives but I know he does not have anything but an old pocket knife. My budget is 150 to 200. I don't know what is most useful for him, but probably something folding. I assume he will get weapons issued to him, so I am not sure if a personal knife is a good gift but it popped into my mind. Anyone that was in the service that could chime in if this is something that a service member would want would be great to hear also.

Is that budget enough to get something he will keep for his life and be proud to own?

I dont think cadets are allowed to have a knife in dorms, years a go they were not. Might want to check that first.
