A little more than a year ago I adopted several soldiers working in Iraq and Afghanistan. I sent out some packages with some goodies along with notes to let people know to contact me and let me know what they needed. Over time one soldier and I began to correspond a good bit. I continued to send him and his buddies packages of stuff they needed and even more stuff they did not. These guys had a rough task and were isolated from most people but still in significant harms way on a daily basis. I sent them what I could, most of the time, nothing espensive; ie. old dvd's, wipes, hard candies, batteries, magazines. They loved the DVD's as it helped pass the downtime they had in such a remote area. I ended up collecting DVDs from others and we sent them a ton. Well as time past and correspondence continued, one imparticular soldier and I became friends. We have chatted on e-mail and he even called me the day he got back to the U.S. Well for Christmas he sent me a photo of him and his buddies in Iraq, along with a BK 9. Needless to say we have chatted knives a good bit. I am hoping he will join this forum soon and see how great everyone is here. I was shocked by such a nice gift, especially considering what a small part I was doing and the major sacrifice he was giving. I felt honored and inspired and now that these guys are home, I will look for new soldiers to continue to support. God bless them all and lets get them home safe soon.

Hope everyones 2011 starts as well as mine.

Great story, Whitty. Thanks for sharing -- with us and, especially, with our soldiers.
