EMS on the baby cherokee rose bowie. I did a double take, thought it was 89 at first. Can’t refuse at that current price.

Done deal. Christmas came early!

EMS for the Sat Chirra by Anil.

And got the Done Deal. I've never seen one of these before, and it's a nice size.

If anyone out there doesn't have one yet, the Villager Utility Knives from Anil are absolutely phenomenal.

Agreed, and many do not come with a sheath. Between the VUK and the WWII model there are some amazing deals for a first-timer to HI or someone looking for a real user.

Absolutely. I got a couple extra to give as gifts this season (and spread the khukuri bug). It's surprising what those little things can do.

One I got fairly recently probably had the most thirsty handle I've ever seen before. Not a bad thing but I'm surprised how dark the wood got like new life was put in it. As far as I'm aware, pure Tung oil doesn't really do that so I'm thinking it was the original color of the wood? It looks great now.

They’re great gifts for the novitiate. Get them started early, first one’s free.

I have refinished several HI handles before and for the most part the wood is very oily, tends to clump up rather than turn to dust when sanded. Do you happen to know what type of wood it was?

Great snag - I would have snapped that up if you hadn’t.

It's Satisal wood that looked about like the one on this post. After many days of oiling, it now has a color darker than the Sat Chirra but a bit lighter than the Baby Bowie on the right. Otherwise, most handles have only taken in a bit on the surface. I was actually pleasantly surprised.

Sometimes it's important to lightly sand to remove the polishing compound they use on the wood which kind of seals the wood. Removing and then oiling can make a huge difference. Then the more you handle them and rub more oil, the better they get.

I received my “Baby” Cherokee Rose Bowie just yesterday, and it makes me laugh calling it a baby. It’s a very decently sized cutter! I guess it’s a baby the same way a baby elephant is, only because its parents are so colossal.

I am more than pleased with the purchase especially for the price I paid. The fit and finish is fantastic with a wonderfully smooth handle and thick leather sheath. The blade’s thickness is IMO absolutely perfect. Thick enough to be durable without being too chunky, thin enough to slice with little resistance without being flimsy. The little balled guards are a wonderful touch and I thought they’d be a bit thick or heavy, but they’re pounded quite thin to provide some character without unneccesary weight.

A quick story: For about six weeks now I was heavily considering a Kumar Karda as a more utilitarian camp knife that would be at home either carving wood as it would be slicing veggies. However, I ended up shrugging it off and saving my pennies for other holiday gifts.

When I made the order for the bowie, Auntie told me in the email I would also get a bonus holiday gift. I was thinking a shawl, or pendant, or hat, but no: Yangdu shipped a gorgeous, perfectly balanced Kumar Karda in addition to my Baby Bowie, for no other reason than to spread the holiday cheer.

THIS is why I keep coming back to Himalayan Imports. It’s one thing for a company to have a spiffy CNC machine to crank out state of the art super steel knives, and good for them. But HI has so much magic revolving around it that it’s uncanny. From its products to service to the lovely community, I never would have expected a knife company from Nepal to entice such feelings of goodwill and wonder from me.
