I gave this to my cousin-in-law expecting something pretty cool. this started as a forum purchased piece with G10, and stripped, still a basically black blade with no coating. I worked the blade to very sharp on MDF. I tried to work on the G10 and made it very grip friendly, yet the handle profile was still less than practical for me. He returned this to me...

Nice! The character on the wood's perfect....But where'd your talon hole go?

Is it under the handles? hahaha...that's a Houdini job! ;)

Yep! - it is taking a breather, not as important to me on this knife, we talked about it, and I think the handles look better this way. This was his first go at a larger handle, and I totally forgot my uncle-in-law works on custom motorcycle/car rims, and all other types of metal shaping and polishing/finishing. Whole new world has opened up!

It feels great, and is so light, the polishing process thinned the whole blade out just a tad.

Really happy, and totally unexpected result.

Wow that looks nice. I have been working off and on with a user I got some time ago. EVENTUALLY I hope to get it looking close to that. Too many other things interrupting my progress right now. But soon, soon it will look shiny. Looks great, thank you for rubbing in my lack of effort on my part lol. Makes me realize how slow I am going on my project lol.

You married well...that ranks up there with marrying into the Busse INFI Empire ;)

I married the best - when she accepted her invitation to heaven, she left me with a great family that loves me like their own. I will have to pay for shop time and labor next time though! He's been doing it for 45 years, custom and classic cars, and bikes etc...he is a busy guy. Still likely a better deal than sending it off! The other thing is, I am not sure if he can get results with handles on, although I have a couple of sex bolted busses that could use a spa treatment. Also don't want an entire set of chromed out knives! I need to go to his shop and see if he can do satin-esque stuff as well. Planning a shop tour soon!

The handle maker is very appreciative of the compliments and I told the uncle the same thing. He said (uncle), that's what most people say! HA!

Cousin here. I wanted to thank you all for the nice comments. I did spend good bit of time reshaping and finishing the handle, but the polishing job our uncle did really took it to another level.
@Ladams19, don't be too hard on yourself. Our uncle did it in about 15-20, and it would have taken me at least a full day to get it remotely close to this (but never as scratch free as it was when he was done). And he was bullshitting with me about this and that all the while. He makes his own wheels and uses a couple 5hp polishing machines.

Here is a before (polishing) and after shot (if I add it correctly):

Regarding the talon hole that Petey pointed out: I went back and forth about what to do with it. I've seen written, the handle was a bit of a mistake, dangerous actually. It was wedge shaped and wanted to push your hand over the blade with any sort of push cut. I reshaped the profile of the knife so that the widest part of the handle was about mid-handle, but felt it needed a bit more grip, and the only options I could think of were to leave the flare by your index finger, or use a strap from the talon hole to the lanyard hole (butt hole?). The handles are removable, so I left it as is, since it can be drilled out if my cousin ever wishes.

Again, much appreciative of all the nice feedback.

Cheers

Thank you, he did an amazing job and in that time. Makes my mouth water. Thats amazing, it really is. I could spend a weekend on it and still not look half that good. It is about knowing what your doing for one, and have the tool for the job, two. It is artwork now as well as a functional tool. A 5 HP POLISHER LOL. that might be a beast to watch.
