I'd better butter up my wife before another triangle box arrives.... any good suggestions?

Got to raise some khuk money before divorce happens- ha... ha...

The HIKV is real.

We're doing the "12 Days of Christmas" this year. It's fantastic. I've been making her nice steamed hot chocolate lattes, giving her coupons for the performance of distasteful chores and generally being helpful. Nothing like giving back to the best people in our lives who make it all possible, right?

Just pulled out all my knives and spread them out on the table. Wow it's a lot of fun! It's not -that- many (7 right now with one headed out the door to a fa, but I better put them away before my dear sees 'em!
I don't hide purchases because I think that is unhealthy/dishonest .... but when you get an accurate count of them I can see how it could prove problematic.

lemme know when you hit triple digits ;)

It depends on what your wife likes. mine used to love getting Pandora charms. Pandora bracelets are like the perfect gift for guys to buy. They range from $20 to $400 bucks and "mean" something. Anymore, the Mrs just likes stuff from this local handmade soap/lotion shop.

Great suggestions.

This is why we do what we do:

I love giving, I just suck horribly bad at thinking up stuff to give. You reach a point in life where one has 2 or everything and 3 of most.
I tell my wife, tell me, make a list, help me here.

My wife knows my knife / gun addiction and fortunately loves Yangdu and her sisters so she's understanding. Also very few guns in recent times and knives (HI knives) are far cheaper than guns.

I figured to post a picture here of the wall but once again photobucket is being photobucket.

Using it make me want to take a CAK to the keyboard. Guess I better seek a new picture place.

I can recommend imgur but I don't know how long they keep the pictures/links active.
I'd love to see a wall picture Bawanna. You're right about the relative cheapness of guns vs knives, especially with screaming deals like this, but I'll tell you what: looking at these incredible deal of the days, and as my love of all things HI grows, I think my gun cabinet is starting to get a little nervous that some of its members days are numbered. Luckily I don't believe in "Selling guns"....(Or HI Knives...)

edit: SteelyGunz, email me your address and I'll send you some handmade soap.

edit: Some of you may know we have a little new baby so I got her: A nap!

My hikv exposure was about a year ago. Started looking for ONE universal all purpose hiking/camp knife. Almost ordered khuk from Nepal competitor, then discovered HI. Lurked & researched months before pulling trigger. Have to say I DID find the ONE that I was looking for, and yet 6 months later counted SIX:eek: from HI...

I get her a Dooney purse, or a short vacation, and that will set me for at least a few HI purchases.

You could offer a gift equal to 10% or 20% of each knife you purchase. Gets her in on the action (er, FUN :))and keeps you focused on buying "essentials" - like that $ 48.00 steal you did earlier today. Even I was jealous of that one and I have yet to buy any from HI. :D

Good luck. I appreciate your intentions

That is GOLDEN!!
Sounds like you're tracking better than most just with the "12 days". Many ladies remember experiences more than things. And don't have to be extravagant events. Things she enjoys doing with friends, even just going for coffee without a baby can be a treat. Or get a sitter so you have time together.

Magical suggestions in here, thanks guys!

I know she wants a vacation so bad, she wants to travel and I want to stay home and buy knives so we have to compromise some how! Mercifully, she isn't a shoe or purse girl.

I love the suggestion Joe, we'll send her to do some coffee and what-not....

It's off topic, Ray...but what do you think about the feasibility of building a little dingy, raft, or canoe or something for an amateur?

Vacationed with my wife in Tahoe last summer, was little over an hour drive to Auntie's in Reno ;)

This was my original HI Blade display.

I then had to make a sliding wall built into my man cave closet for lack of any other space.

Wasn't long before I had to add a second track for a second sliding wall.

All protected by Bharab and Alan Yip Choys portrait of a Kami.

Had to move some swords off the wall to another spot. I think I need more wall.

And while the Gods of photobucket are allowing me admittance frustrating as it is, here's a shot of my work in progress R6 that Santa brought me.
I just couldn't bond with the handle so I built up my nerves and took it off. Originally intended to go antler my first love, but alas I couldn't get it right, just not the right piece.
I shortened it a bit and started with some Birdseye Maple and failed, finally ended up with some Black Walnut. It's coming along and beginning to sing.
Forgive me Kami Dil for messing with your creation, it was perfect but I'm not so I've evening things up.

And before I messed with it.

I don't know what the real collectors do for space, Big Bore must have a warehouse, or perhaps a museum. If he don't he should have, he's got some very cool and rare stuff.

You could also try to get a little Kagas Kagne letter opener if Yangdu has any! I sharpened one up and gave it to my mom. She loves it for opening letters, and can still use it as a knife in a pinch

Nice showing B'Man! Yeah, I been into it for 15 months, not many would believe the number. Two from Malasiya have yet to arrive. Got caught up in customs and returned to the original SP. We both agreed it's probably best to wait until after the holidays for an other attempt. Talk about a couple show stoppers, eh?

It's your thread so off topic away - but for a real discussion probably best to send me a PM. Short answer though - if you are asking about an amateur building himself/herself a boat - is - completely feasible if you have at least basic carpentry skills and some tools (more than a Khuk). Rafts - no problem, small boat - lots of good kits and detailed instructions using plywood or solid lumber, a canoe more challenging but still within the possibility depending on your skill and patience level.

Thanks for the show and tell Bawanna! I love your display it is fantastic!
Coming to see that would be like going to visit the Louvre for me.... I love the hatchet and the big pointy double sided thing next to it!

What is the little white-handled khuk at the top of that rack? That thing sings.

What is the khuk in the hanging rig?

I have daydreams about a kothimoda. I just love silver (jewler's son)
Getting a 8-14" khuk or a little karda, it would be just perfect.
And you have the one kothimoda to rule them all, the Katana. Those swords are outstanding.

I sent you an email, Ray.

So, now here is the plan:
First, drive down the coast to FL to see BigBore and get the keys to the vault, then drive to the Corn Patch to see the Corn Kami, then we gotta see Bawanna in WA,
and then to Mecca, I mean...Reno! Did I miss anything?

and yes, I do want a Kagnas Katne? and a Biltong... If I tried to give one to my wife she'd just roll her eyes I think!

Last night she was very impressed by how different the Pen Knife is from the Sarge... she couldn't believe they were made by the same person!
She says "this one has a little cutout here, the handles are different" etc.. she was totally uninterested but she faked it anyway and it was very cute. I love her so much.

The light colored handle with scale on blade is a Tamang, the bone handle smaller knife is a Bashpati.

If your talking about the one hanging kind of by the rifles, that is a KLVUK in a sheath made by Pugs. I just used a camera strap. I wear it riding my lawn mower. Anything that whips me in the face is fair game.

The one in the sheath on the wall is a mini wajasaki. Have to figure out a way to hang it without the sheath, I like to let them breath.

I love the hatchet and the big pointy double sided thing next to it!
Both of those were made from scratch from my good pal Bookie. Man has serious talent.

There's more room up high on the walls but I don't like to hang stuff I can't reach myself. Being a full time sitter I'm rather height compromised. It's a nuisance to wait for a vertical person to come and get one down for me.

Totally awesome, thanks for the indepth reply. The bone handle one under the Tamang on the Left is a Bashpati? Hmm... a new model.... every day I learn a new model and it's SCARY. Apparently Bookie's work speaks to me! I'm not surprised.

Under the bashpati is a biltong?
