Hopefully a fun one:

Scenario: A coworker gets promoted from field work to be your direct supervisor. Almost immediately after taking the role he endeavors to secure a raise for you and manages to pull off a nearly 20% increase in pay. What knife are you gifting as a “Thank You”?

Budget: ~$250
Limitations: 3.5” blade length or under, 4oz or under, no serrations or plastic handles.

For a little more context: He’s a tool knife kinda guy. Typically carried something along the lines of a Kershaw Blur. I’d like to step his game up a little and get him something more appropriate for the less physically demanding role he’s now in.

Here are a few :
First I thought ; a Case Trapper or Mini Trapper with a pocket slip in abalone . A real looker ! Basic blade steel and not quick opening but an heirloom knife !
Next I thought a Benchmade Bailout (has M4 steel so a step up there ) it was my Christmas gift to myself last year The dark blue handle . I already had the dark green one.. Great knife but slim in pocket and slim blade so carries very well !

Those are around $250

An absolute steal and a fantastic knife ( I bought one and as soon as my coworker layed eyes on one he bought one ) is the

CIVIVI Damascus Pocket Knife for EDC, Appalachian Drifter II Folding Knife with 2.96" Clip Point Blade

has a carbon fiber handle that is to die for .
And like $100 ! ! !
They were out of stock where I bought mine but there must be some out there somewhere .

Small Sebenza, or for kicks, a LG ESV. Eat the additional cost as I'm sure it's far less than the 20% he got you 😁

I don't know if I can get away with this but for now here is the manufacturer's image of the Appalachian Drifter II :
PS: it is a liner lock and opens with an end flipper .

Oh … you’re stepping down to office apparel.
There is a carbon fiber Delica on sale for 20% off so that would fit for a nice blade.

Big Buck fan so I would look there. Not sure of the office dress but a 110 if a sheath is acceptable, if not, I am a huge Vantage fan if something with a pocket clip is the ask.

Worth it also to look around their Custom Shop, can get something special there and have it engraved by them also.

Something solid with a damascus blade would be my pick. The guy will cling to function, but the look and materials should be boss level. It may be worth entertaining a less expensive knife and purchasing aftermarket upgrades.

The Spartan Poros is hard to beat for 190.00, if he likes flippers. CM154 blade will work hard for him, and is easy to sharpen.

20%? Put a hundo on that and get them a lnib small sebenza on the secondary.

The Pro-Tech manual flippers are very nice. Lots of Spyderco knives are on sale now with 20% off MAP prices. Let’s you get a non-plastic handled Spyderco at a reasonable price.

Hogue Mysto in Richlite and the Hogue Sig K320 aluminum are really nice as well.

Have to agree, Sebbie would be unforgettable, a 940 is also an icon for around your price range and an actual well built knife.
Take your previous annual pay, how much is %20 on top of that?
Now take that dollar value and what's %10 of that?
you can confidently spend that on a one time thank you pressent and sleep well.
This is so rare nowadays, someone who leveled up and the first thing he did was look out for everyone that didn't? Probably at small risk for himself, because if he just got promoted and hes over here demanding raises, upper management ain't gonna like that.

Just my 2 cents

Ultimately its up to you. People will always judge.
Spend too little and you're ungrateful.
Spend too much and you're a fool.

I've worked with 1,000s of different people from all kinds of backgrounds.
%99.99 of people would happily get you fired for a %10 raise for themselves.
Would love to meet your coworker and shake his hand, thats a man with honor.
