Gift Kinves - short fixed blades, good steel, nice wood scales?

I am thinking of getting a couple people nice knives for Christmas this year. I am thinking something along the lines of less than a 3" blade, maybe 2-2.25", with wood scales. Some steels I am looking at are CPM-3V and S35VN. Tan/natural color leather sheaths would be preferable, but I wouldn't rule out a nice tactile sheath like the ESEE's (I just want to steer away from their 1095 steel and linen and canvas micarta scales).

Some knives I am looking at in the Bark River lineup are the Mini Fox River's (3V and S35VN) and Pro Scalpel (in 3V). I like the regular Bravo Neckers in 3V size-wise, but I can't get any nice wood scales for them. I suppose custom made scales might be an option, but I'd rather make them and don't have a way to do so between now and Christmas.

What other suggestions can you offer?

Check out Blind Horse Knives All hand made with good steels wood scales made in the US at a very fair price. I have a few Small workhorses that are in D2 and real nice classic Fixed blades.
