Seasons Greetings to all. My future son-in-law wants a large folding knife to use at work in a diesel repair shop. He's a big fella at 6'5" and 375 lbs. Here are the parameters:

1. Around $50.00
2. At least a 4" blade
3. Partially serrated
4. Heavy duty
5. American made (yeah, right. I told him fat chance)
6. Either clip or sheath OK.

The price and partially serrated blade are the only invariables. Assisted opening would be a plus

I am a "knife guy" but mostly in traditionals. I really appreciate your suggestions. Photos would be most welcome.

Whoops, didn't notice the 4" requirement. I'd say cold steel, made in Taiwan, but solid knives no doubt and quite a few in their line over 4". :)

Cold Steel Voyagers, Recon-1s meet all requirements except USA made. I personally own an XL Voyager CP plain edge, its a masive folder but fast in hand and light for its size. One folder I will never part with. Had a Recon-1 but sold it, and still regret doing so.

A ZT 0200ST from kershaw guy would be pretty much dead on for all your criteria, but is about 45 bucks more than your budget. He has serrated tango kershaw blurs for about 40 bucks but blade is only 3.5 inches. Aside from those, you could look at some cold steel stuff, possibly a spyderco endura, or resilience,
