Gift set boxes, anyone?

I have an Old Timer and Uncle Henry gift set box. One held the fillet knife and a stockman (Uncle Henry). The other held a Sharpfinger and a stockman (Old Timer). They're dark brown with gold lettering.

If anyone wants them, just email, PM, or post here. I'd be happy to wrap them up and send them. Otherwise, they're hitting the trash bin.

KNIVES NOT INCLUDED. :D

I hope I don't need to explain the importance of provenience when it comes to collecting Old Timers.

"Son, This is an Uncle Henry fillet knife. It originally came in a gift set box and would be quite collectible if only I still had that box..."
"Dad! You broke up a set and lost the box?!? That goes against everything you've ever taught me!"

:D

Seriously though, we've all ended up with an extra box or two along the way. I had a BuckLite box from a long-lost knife. I did the same as you, posting a topic in the Buck forum, and it found a home almost immediately.

But I'd also be concerned about inappropriate knives being placed into the empty box and end up on the collectors market as "A Complete and Original Schrade Gift Set..."

Just my thoughts... even though you didn't ask. :)
Best Wishes,
-Bob

I was thinking only of using it for display.I don't think I need a spanking. You know I haven't posted on here for a while because my computer crashed and burned. Now I see things are still screwed up.No wonder we have lost so many regular posters.Arnold

Arnold, my post wasn't directed at you. I was merely curious as to why Guyon had 'extra' gift set boxes, and to make a joke about the "collector value" of boxes.

I think if you want the boxes for display, that's great. Especially if it saves them from the dumpster. Like I said, I've done the same thing before.

But I was serious regarding the problem of mis-matched "sets" on the resale market. The value of NIB knives compared to the value of New-In-No-Box knives is motivation enough for certain sellers to rearrange or create "sets" or package incorrect items together.

Happens more than we probably know. I saw a 197UH Box last night for sale with a 194OT knife sitting in it. Seller had not a clue, so he said when I brung it to his attention.

I use the knives that came in them. I'm cleaning out and don't want the boxes. Enough said.

Arnold, email me your address. The Sharpfinger box is yours. I think it came with an 8OT. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong.

The Uncle Henry fillet knife gift box is also spoken for. I can't remember which little stockman it came with. 897UH, I believe.

An educated guess on the Old Timer set would be an SGS-1 gift set. The pocket knife was a 34OT. The flocked trays for these came in several colors. One color was special for J. C. Penny.

As for the Uncle Henry set with the 167UH, it was likely a SGS-3 gift set and the folder was an 897UH.

These are usually printed on the vacuume formed flocked trays, so I assume the trays are gone, or have just not been looked at recently.

The boxes have the formed trays, but the trays have no writing on them. The outside of the Old Timer box looks like the one pictured.
