I'm looking to buy my father a small folder for Christmas and feel the Cricket or SLB would be perfect. However, I'm not a big fan of stainless handles, so I keep leaning to the SLB - but I know nothing about it. I know VG-10 is more preferred than Aus 8, but my father is not a knife fanatic, so steel is not so important. I've never handled the SLB, so not sure how it feels in the pocket or hand.

Imagining they are the same cost, which would you buy?

I wasn't too sure about the staineless cricket either until I bought one. Great little knife - ultra-thin profile, cut's like a razor, light as a feather, and excellent VG-10 steel. Also great for the office or any other place where sheeple may be an issue.

do you find that the stainless handles scratch easily? Basically want it to look good for a fair amount of time, even if he carries it everyday.

Yes, the Crickets stainless handles scratch pretty easily. But the Cricket is so small you really don't notice it.

I carry a Cricket daily but not the stainless model. Your best bet is to check ebay and look for the out of production FRN Cricket or Carbon Fiber Cricket. Those were the best!

I carry a etched cricket as a money clip, great knife and doesn't great a second look when I pull it out to purchase something.

is the SLB easy to open one-handed?

I have the old Tuffram coated version of the Cricket and really like it. As for CF and FRN versions, they can run a little steep on eBay. And I'm running out of time.

Anyway, thanks for the opinions.
