Gifted A New Old Timer

I want to give a shoutout to

Reaper AL for gifting me this Old Timer.

He sent me a message saying he had something for me and this is what arrived. It’s not something I’ve been longing for, but I’m pleasantly surprised by it. And since I’d not talked to Al previously I was quite surprised. Thank you again!

I had heard about old timer pocket knives being produced in the USA but I’ve not had any experience with them and I didn’t know that the iconic sharpfinger was being made in the USA again.

It is 1095 steel and ground very symmetrically with a perfect mirror polish. Al’s boy replaced the factory scales with micarta and green liners before he gifted it to me.

Looks like a china sheath. I’ve not used or sharpened it yet but I plan to put it through its paces and give an occasional report. Looking forward to how it patinas!

What a beauty! That's such a unique micarta that wouldn't work on just anything but it looks great on this model.

Man that looks good! What a nice gesture. The scales are fantastic

Mine isn't the USA version, but the new sheath looks similar and needed oil badly. The leather started to get a few surface cracks on the keeper after a very short time. Luckily some neatsfoot oil and a hairdryer took care of it no problem.

That Knife will do a lot of work!

My great friend here in NZ, he saw this Old timer that he thought was in such good order- he isn't a knife collector or Knife Knut by any means- but a beautiful Human being is what he is, he bought the knife or me, its a Chinese made old Timer and man I LOVE that Knife- its my Garage Knife and it gets used and takes a good edge, I thank him each time I see it and pick it up - so I hope you get just half of that satisfaction of what I get, Welcome back to the USA Schrade OT's, and with Al's Boys work on the Knife- there's a whole lot of Soul in that package!
