My friend gave me this:

No information on it other than "SOG Specialty knives" on the blade and "Japan." Has a little belt pouch for storage.

Thanks for the help!

Congrats! Thats a nice knife that you were gifted. I have a SOGWinder I. They are very solid, hefty folders and the Kraton inserts feel good.

I have the same knife and it is a brute!

I saw one sell on ebay for over $200.00 used. I bought my S9 SOGWinder II for around $75.00 @ MCSports in 2001.

The sheath started falling apart so I wrote a email to SOG and they sent me a new one right away. It was the first knife that I owned where you can wear the sheath sideways. It is a very heavy knife, and still has no blade play and has a strong lockup. Still one of my favorite edc's.

Fantastic knife by the way i have one thats over 20 years old... still my favorite.

I thought the steel was aus6.

That is correct, SOG used AUS6 and AUS8 on a lot of knives back then. Some of the marketing info wasn't correct. Good steel, with a good heat treat. :)
