Anyone have any experience with Gigand? What do you think of them? I am considering the Shockwave and Titan.

Thanks
Howie

Received a Titan (aluminum scales) earlier this week. I think it is very well made for the price ($40) and is attractive. I haven't used it for anything yet, and it will probably not displace my (current) favorite BM 705. The Titan is larger than the 705 and costs half as much. The difference in feel is not unlike the difference between a Honda motorcycle and a BMW. They both are nice, but the BMW (and 705) are nicer and more expensive.

I have a carbon fiber Shockwave that is really quite nice. The action is very smooth and the scales look great; not a flaw to be seen. The steel could be just a little nicer (I think it`s AUS 8, and I`m too lazy to get up and take a look.) I`m really quite happy with it. It was, by FAR, the most inexpensive knife with carbon fiber scales I`ve ever seen.

In my opinion the Spectrum is a piece of junk. There is way too much blade play, the pivot screws come out on their own and the stop pin is terible. Just my .02

CRIPES!!! Pivot screws coming loose?!?! It has long been my firm belief that pivot screws are an important- no, near essential- part of a decent folder! :-) Yea, I'd say that's definitely a BAD thing. Hmm, mixed reviews. I will still consider the Shockwave, my fave among the brand's various lines, as a smaller knife for more formal occasions (than my 710, which I'm ordering when I get home from school, assuming I can get a response from Bayou Lafourche and/or Top of Texas knives).

Well, you DID inquire about the Shockwave and Titan, not the Spectrum. I`ve never had a pivot problem on the Shockwave, and there is a pivot wrench included in the box to adjust the action.

As far as the Spectrum is concerned, I think it`s a huge step down from the Shockwave in terms of overall quality. I wouldn`t doubt reports of problems with the Spectrum as they always seemed very light and flimsy to me. More concerned with the color of the handle than the quality of the knife. (Just my opinion!) Get a Shockwave if you`re going to get a Gigand. The CF is really nice on mine.

I have to disagree w/Jake's assessment of the Spectrum. I've had one since March and, although it is not a daily carry piece, it is one that I carry on frequent airline trips because of its non-threatening appearance.

Mine has zero blade play even w/tension set so that it can be opened w/wrist flip. Although I can adjust the tension w/o use of the tool, it has not worked loose on its own. I also ran it through the AT Barr liner lock tests w/o any problems.

I guess it's another case of YMMV. Now that it's been out for a while, I'd be interested to hear other owners' opinions.
