Webcams are not expensive now.
I've tried some videos of manipulations,

http://www.balisong.net/en/beyond.htm

but the quality is not that great.
Like Gigante, as bali moves are quick, the video is fuzzy. I tried to increase the number of frames per second. And finally I decided to do the techniques twice : normal and slow.

Clay, do you have advices to give us in terms of Video Software : for capture, and for compression (transforming to AVI or MPG format...) ?

Thanks for the encouragemnt folks !

I've experimented with the frame rate but it doesn't seem to matter, just more frames with blur... I think I need a digital video camera for this, and that costs at least 15 times more, hehe...

anagarika : No I used my old cheapie, I would not try that with my Jag just yet.. 8-)

Excellent! This is exactly the sort of thing I'd like to see.

Balisongs are about movement. As I've been known to say, "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing."

With any photographic process, you need to experiment a bit. Also, these inexpensive cameras aren't going to deliver perfect video, that's why they're inexpensive. But they're getting better and they do give a usable product.

The software I use is by Ulead. VideoStudio, and MediaStudio Pro.

VideoStudio is what you get free when you buy certain video capture boards. It's not too bad, especially for what most of us want to do with the Balisong videos.

I save at the highest frame rate possible, usually between 25 and 30 FPS, and mostly in AVI form.

Compression is tricky. Some don't work with older versions of Windows Media player, and I try to avoid those because I want easy access for as many people a possible.

I usually stick with INTEL INDEO 3.2. It works consistently well across different platforms, and players.

This is just a post to Clay:

Hey man, I just wanted to let you know that your site is responsible for bringing me into the Balisong world. It is probably the best Balisong site out there on the net. All your freestyle videos kick ass, are you planning on making more? And what type of bali do u use when you demonstrate the techniques?

I saw some members from Virginia posting here, does anyone live in Hampton Roads??? I live in Norfolk. Is there anywhere near where I can find some cheap balis??? Or does anyone know anywhere where I can order without credit card?

The One, Welcome to the forums and yep a couple of us here live in the Hampton Roads(unfortunatly) area. A great place to get cheapies is Lil GI Joe's on Military hwy near the Super K. No places around here know what a BM 42 is so you'll have to travel to get one of those or just order online using an MO or Pay Pal.

Gigante I liked it. Now you should make a shoot with your jag and post it no matter what happens in the routine.

Here's me doing some stuff. Kinda funny at the end. The stickman vid is funny too.

A friend and I were just screwing around one night a couple weeks ago. I've since started using two hands.

Hey Mkyl, thanks, I noticed you were from VA when I first got here. I've heard of that place. Exactly what kind of cheapies are there? Any Jaguars? And I thought balis were illegal to sell in Norfolk. Anyway I was also wondering if you would ever want to part with a decent working old BM for a decent price??
