Hey all,

I have 2 questions regarding two Gil Hibben's knives:

1st: his KENPO KNIFE (original)
=> Do you know if there have been a numeroted serie of this knife?
(i've been told there had been a 1500 items serie and wanted to check with you)

2nd: his DOUBLE SHADOW (silver)
=> What do you think of this knife? is it a famous knife, how is it seen in the knives world, do you like it/hate it/are you indifferent?
I know it was used in the movie Rapid Fire (I knew it like this), and like it's originality but have a doubt on the quality.

thx!
Guillaume

There are no stupid questions here. I think the reason why you have not recieved any responses is because Hibben's knives just aren't that popular, and nobody here can answer your questions very well.

Here's my opinion: his more traditional (and usually older) knives are great. High quality, good users. His more excentric (fantasy) knives are more for show, and as such I have little interest in them.

LOL! No, you didn't ask a stupid question. I suppose noone knows the answer to your question.

I know very little about Hibben knives. I've only seen the ones produced by United Cuttlery.

I don't have any passion for the knives you mentioned... They look good, but they don't have any ring to them if you know what I am talking about...

I do love Gil Hibben original Silver Shadow - it looks like medieval knight's dagger, and at the same time there's something in that blade that reminds me of World War II commando dagger...

Are you talking about his custom knives or factory reproductions? I own several of his handmade knives, both hunting and fantasy. He is one of the pioneers of knifemaking. I haven't used the knives for cutting, but they feel really good in the hand and the finish is very well done on all of his work. I also see him often at knife shows. He is a real gentleman, always friendly and very knowledgable about knives.

yitz is right, Gil is a great guy. Many of his handmade knives are simple, elegant, practical pieces that have been very well executed. On the opposite end of the spectrum from practical, two years ago he won Best in Show at the Vegas Classic with an incredible fantasy piece that looked like it was made by a Klingon armorer.
