What is that stuff? I just got a Native lightweight and it has GIN-1 Stainless as the kind of steel. I've never heard of it, maybe it's a less popular name of some kind of better known steel?

Gin1 was used by spyderco originally for its knives before switching to ats-55

Gin-1 is also known as g2. I also heard from somwhere that it was also called gingami? Also heard refered as silver paper.

Manufactuered in Japan, it has similair stats to ats-34 from a cursory look at their elements. It is claimed by benchmade as simlair to 154cm and ats34 but with more rust resistance.

I don't care for what it is but for what it does ;)
I carry a Native lightweight all days since like 3 years ago and I heavily use it... The edge is still factory sharp!
One of the best choice you can get for EDC users IMO

I agree. A very good steel at least when heat treated and ground as used in many of the Spyderco knives. I have several old Enduras and Delicas, and a G10 Navigator, that have GIN-1 blades and I am very pleased with their performance. I almost prefer it to ATS34 for a EDC work knife because I can strop it back to a scary shaving edge faster and easier.

I have carried a GIN-1 Native forever.

I don't think it holds an edge particularly well, but it sharpens easily with a straightening steel and I like that.

Gin 1 is some good steel, but carrying and heavily using a knife made out of it everyday for three years, and it still has the factory sharp edge? ??? Gimme a break.

my favorite steel. or one of them.

rust resistance is a big thing for me.

440C good too.
