I just picked up the latest Spyderco Damascus Mule. I was thinking it would look good with bone scales. I have found a source for stabilized dyed giraffe bone. Having never worked with it, I was wondering how it drilled, shaped and polished. My only experiance is with stabilized woods, G10 and micarta. Any advice or possiable pitfalls to avoid would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bill

I had no issues working my Giraffe bone, just always wear a dust mask, even when not using powertools. Very easy to work. Slow when drilling and cutting and filing so you don't get any chipping.

Since you're talking Damascus and giraffe bone.... I'm not a maker so my post is pretty much useless as far as your question is concerned but I'll use it as an excuse to show the materials in question and fanciest knife I have. Obviously I can't use a camera and I just noticed the hearts on the towel - my apologies all around (especially if this post is inappropriate for this section). Mike

The main thing with any kind of bone or antler is DON"T GET IT HOT.As Chuck said use sharp belts and drills, when it starts to get warm let it sit and cool.other than that it works well.
