I'm a custom maker and have been trying to figure out who to dye giraffe and camel bone. I tried a suggestion by another maker using leather dye with a 50 50 mix of conola oil and water. Turns out kind of messy and bleaches out quickly in sun light. Not to mention very little penatration. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Aniline dye? Alcohol base or water base? HELP!

R. w. Wilson, who is a dealer of such, and a fine one to deal with, told me he soaks his over night in leather dye, and often gets full penetration. I haven't tried it however. That would be spirit based dye, not water based.

I order tint from Woodworkers Supply, mix it with alcohol. Get good penetration . With giraffe bone, ya never know what color you're gonna get.

just a word of caution, before you dye any bone , antler or whatever, you'd better make sure the place your going to have stabilize it, will mess with it after you dye it. wssi will not.

Have fun,

Bill
