Recruiting an industrious man or women who has the ability to haft a new knife or rehaft an old knife (or atleast wants to try). It must be a traditional knife, of course! He or she must create a new discussion in Traditionals and post photos of their progress and of the finished product. Whether you are a novice, an amateur, or a custom knife maker, you are welcome to enter. If you are up for a challenge, this just might work. I'd like to give away a nice elk round for the project. If you aren't located in the USA, please post a link to documentation indicating that this material can be safely imported to your country from the USA (I don't want to spend any time in jail because of a giveaway ;) )

To enter post a project idea... If you don't have one yet, then want post a classic music video that you enjoy...

I'm thinking of something along the lines of this...

Here are some photos of the elk round to give you an idea of the challenge that awaits!

Great idea for a thread. I'm sure that someone here will do a great job. Look forward to seeing the final result :)

Very cool idea for a GAW...I've been wanting a Puukko style knife for a while now, and just the other day I came across these Kellam blades on their site. Currently a back burner project idea for me, but I would venture a go of it if chosen...Thanx for the chance!

That is a beautiful piece of horn...and I wouldn't even know where to start!
Having seen Duane's work here on the forum (and the Buck forum) as well as what he did to improve a Sheffield barlow we exchanged I have a feeling he would make a sweet knife

There's some other guys here too that would make a nice knife with that horn...I can't wait to see!

I think it was FES (maybe someone else, forgive me) who turned an Old Hickory butcher knife into a bowie of sorts with a similar piece of antler. I'd love to try the same with the skinnier profile Slicing Knife, try my hand at adding a guard and making a sheath. Great giveaway idea!

Nice video, Duane! I hadn't heard of Steven Gene Wold and it's always fun to hear new music.

Sonnemann, FES has done some excellent work. That Sika antler is amazing stuff.

Zippofan, I had originally intended to use it for stockman handles. I picked this round since it has a lot of character like sambar stag and most of the other elk rounds were almost smooth. It's certainly going to be a challenge to work with it though. The smooth stuff would have been much easier to work with.

clutchcarter and Jack Black, thank you for the interest. Thank you, Duane for entering. You're brave!

I'm going to end the giveaway on Monday. If there's sufficient interest, it will continue. No worries if there isn't. It will be a challenge though. There's no pressure or time constraint for the project. It's just intended to be fun.

Thanks for the chance Jake, a great idea :)

I´m sorry not to enter this GA, but if you look at CITES and its strict laws, I doubt that stag-antler will fit its strict bills over here in the EU. If that wouldn´t be cause - I´d enter with pleasure... :(

I´m looking forward seeing the result the winner might get on this great piece of stag (added to a new knife :) )

Thank you, Andi. I wish the shipping regulations weren't so strict.

Thank you to those that replied but I'm going to close this since there seems to be little interest. sitflyer or Sonnemann, if either of you would still like the elk round, please send me a PM.
