Give Away knives

Hi Gang,
This weekend, I ended up handing my knife to a guy using a set of keys to rip open a box. I know the guy, and he's NOT a sheeple - in fact, I showed him a few different ideas for a small knife, and he likes the idea

Now here's the question - does anyone know of a cheap, OK quality knife that can be kept around as a "Give Away" blade? I'd love to keep one in my car, my desk, etc, and when someone asks to borrow a blade, be able to hand it to them and say "Keep it"

Charlie

Opinel # 8 is the cheapest I know of.

Other suggestions would be:
Gerber LST
Schrade Old Timer Stockman
Victorinox Recruit

If you want to give him a good inexpensive one-hander you could get him:
Buck Odyssey
Gerber EZ-Out
Gerber Chameleon
Buck Bucklite
These you could find under $30 US Retail.

Go to Smoky Mountain Knifeworks
Pick knives and sort according to price. I think they have a SAK type keychain thing starting at ~$.49 and going up. POS, sure. But, if folks see it works better than keys, maybe they will move up on thier own. BTW, my local wal-mart has a similar knife in the camping section for $.98.

I gave one of these to a friend in July and he still carries and uses it today.

If you're of a mind to go the Ebay route, there are a LOT of giveaway knives to be had. Search there for Buck knives, Schrade, Opinel, Gerber and other good user brands. I'd say you'd spend no more than $6 or $7 for some knives that the recipients would be more than happy with. Some used, some brand new.

Spyderco Ladybug ~$20 plus a choice of handle colors.

Oh yeah the MiniBuck is a great little knife that can be had for around $10, also with different handle colors.

CRKT Carson F4 neck knife or the CRKT Ed Halligan Stiff Kiss can be had for just over $20. There's a cool SOG neck knife that functions as a bottle opener in that price range as well.

I remember early last year there was a website (could have been cheaperthandirt.com) that was selling CRKT Mirage folders for $9.99 each.

I Just bought a small RUKO locking folder for $2.10 Canadian!!!!!!!!
