Give Me Some Background On This Emerson

This is an interesting Emerson folder that I ran across. By the paper it's resting on top of, it seems to be an early Emerson of some kind. As for appearances, am I right in assuming this to be the precursor of the Commander line?

Great piece of Emerson history there. The ES1-M was originally Super Commander size, but they ended up making the actual commander 3/4's of that size. Beautiful true satin finish. Consider me jealous
