And the American dollar is generally strong in Canada, but shipping can bite you. Sometimes you can come out ahead on the deal from MEC. http://www.mec.ca/Main/home.jsp
As with other classes of goods, a good approach is:
1) Do a Google search for an item and compare prices. You will find that few "stores" are the lowest on everything and that some highly recommended stores are actually relatively expensive;
2) Do a Google search on the vendor to check his/her/its reputation. Some with low prices (e.g. Botach Tactical) turn out to have horrible reputations for honesty and customer service. The advice of any individual is limited to that individual's experience. The Internet collects the combined experience of many; AND
3) Always take shipping costs into account.
No one has the motive to protect your wallet like you do. "Give a man a fish . . . . ." and all that.
Ebay Can be good if you have an idea how much things are worth to begin with and watch for shippin and handling charges. I have gotten many items for at or below their origional cost. Always know the full cost including shipping before you bid and set youself a limit and stick to it.
