Hi fellow spyderco lovers,

I recently purchased my very first Paramilitary 2. I love the thing, but let's just say I'm very paranoid. I've seen all these fake PM2 threads going around, and I keep feeling like mine is a fake, as I got it off of Amazon. Nothing yells fake, I just need some reassurance...
I don't have a pic of it in the album below, but the white line on the box can be seen under the gold spider... I've heard this has been seen on real Spydie boxes, but can also be a sign of a fake. Anyway, take a look:

I've checked many videos out, but I'd like to hear your guys' thoughts after looking at the actual knife.

Yep!

I could be wrong (PM2 fakes these days are very sophisticated and proper in appearance), but it looks legit to me. Do you have the box? How's the pivot?

The pivot is good. When I first got the knife it flicked out very fast, however, the detent ball was kind of sticky, and you could hear a metal-on-metal grinding sound when slowly opening the knife. After I lubed it up that went away. Now it's super smooth.

Here's a pic of the box:

£'ve heard some say that all Authentic Spydercos come with the boxes barcode touching the numbers situated below it. I checked the few remaining boxes that I've kept (directly from Spyderco), and their barcode do indeed touch the numbers. (I suppose they mean that the knockoffs come on boxes that had barcode that don't touch the number...)

I wouldnt rely solely on the box content alone to justify whether or not the knife is real. Afterall, these knockoff knives are becoming better and harder to distinguish - box content seem easy to adjust if they really wanted to. Plus, someone mentioned that the boxes may be made from China anyway (not sure if Spyderco has China make the boxes... so don't quote off this one because I am not certain)

Looks good to my eyes!

And the metal on metal grinding also sounds reassuring to me...for the first couple of weeks, my PM2 would start to grind and even get a little rough after a few open/close cycles, but with time and use that eventually went away and it settled into a wonderfully smooth action.

Enjoy it in good health! Based on my short time with it, the PM2s reputation is well deserved [emoji106]

It's good man.the scale is rounded at the end, inside by the compression lock, fakes are squared.they put a bit of a point on the cut away to the lock but a the real one is smooth, some will not bevel the lanyard hole or even put a brass one in. The printing on the box touches the edge of the bar code and make sure the black foam inside the box is cut smaller than the box by a 16th of an inch leaving a slight gap and NO bubble wrap!

In my opinion, the most reliable way to tell the authencity of the knife - next to sending to spyderco - is using it. I don't think the fake ones will use as good a steel as s30v. I am not talking about extended use. Just cutting some cardboard should tell.
