I have a couple of stainless steel handles I'd like give a matte grey/darkgrey finish to. What would be my best bet?.

for anyone else interested in this I used ferric Chloride was 10 bucks locally worked great.

Bead blasting not really cost efficient for one knife

Depends on your connections / attitude of the dudes you ask.
If I still worked at the fine art bronze foundry or the engine machine shop I would have done it for five bucks . . . assuming the owner of the knife had it taped up and ready to go.

Not to hijack this thread, but does anyone have experience using the Stainless Steel Blackener?

PCB etchant. It’s cheap and works great. I’ve been using it for year on both blades and pocket clips that are too shiny for my liking. Just clean the blade with rubbing alcohol and submerge it in the etchant for 15 minutes to an hour, depending on how dark you want it. Do this in a well-ventilated area.
