Here's an imperfect Bruckmann knife I'd like to give away. Not only is it a duplicate from my own collection, but I offered it for trade some time ago and there were no takers.

If you're not familiar with Bruckmann knives, they were made in Germany before World War II. The quality is usually top-notch; the patterns are graceful and gentlemanly; and the materials are often beautiful wood, celluloid, or cattle horn.

Very unusual for Bruckmann, this particular knife has a bit of wobble in the main blade. So probably not the greatest choice for a gent's carry knife, but the beauty of the pearl celluloid scales would make this an excellent "looking at" knife.

This knife has never been used, carried, or sharpened. There are no cracks and the celluloid shows no signs of shrinkage. Each blade has the usual bridge / Mann stamp.

Ideally, I'd like this to get in the hands of a new/young Collector or Accumulator to boost their knife count and whet their interest in vintage slipjoints.

First one to post "I'll Take It" can have it. I'd like to ship to the USA only please.

That is very generous of you Bob. I have a few Bruckmanns and they are great knives. I am sure the winner will be pleased with it.

I have only been colecting for about 2 months although I have been a long time admirer of knives. I have some but collecting is slow as everyone knows. I spent my christmas and birthday money on knives. And oh yeah. Today is my birthday. :-)

Bill

You got it. Send me a PM or e-mail with your mailing address and I'll get it in the mail.

Happy Birthday!

Shoot, no one ever gave me a Bruckmann knife for my birthday... ;)

Happy Birthday Buck Fan!!
Congratulations on a  knife.

VERY generous Bob, class act.

Sorry AshleyKate, this one's gone. Wish I had a whole pile of 'em to give away...

They do show up regularly on eBay though.

No problem Bob!! Again, thank you for the gracious gesture.....After all, it is Buck Fan's Birthday! I will have to check out ebay.....I have just recently found an intrest for older "vintage" knives, and I will get my collection started soon enough!

Happy birthday, and congrats on this fine knife Buck Fan.

Thats a class act Bob, very generous.

Bob W, Nice gesture. By looking at that knife on my screen I'm not real sure thats celluloid. It probably is as you stated and know the knife a lot better than me, but it just doesn't look like it is.. The pivot pin can be tightened, just be careful, the knife would make a great Sunday carry...

Pretty sure it's celluloid; pearl and other fancy celluloids (like the gray "cracked ice") was a common handle material on those Bruckmann knives. They also did work in MOP too, but it doesn't look the same.

Wish I could do a closeup of the knife again to better show the scales, both sides. But it's already off to the post office.

I have another just like it. Maybe I'll scan that in later if I get the chance.

There's one Bruckmann that's really stumpiong me, can't tell if it's celluloid or cattle horn. I suspect it may be "cattle horn celluloid". I need to do some closeup scans of that too.

The pivot pin can be tightened, just be careful, the knife would make a great Sunday carry...
I thought about, but was terrified by the thought of damaging the handles or otherwise destroying the knife's historic interest.

Thanks again for the knife. It came and it is nicer than I expected. I really appreciate your kindness. Best way I know to thank you is to say that I will pass on the kindness.

Thanks,

Bill

Nice give-a-away, love seeing a new collector getting interested in slips!

Thanks Bob

I'm glad you like the knife.

If anyone was still wondering about the handle material, here's a closeup of an identical Bruckmann knife with the same celluloid handles. The second knife is genuine MOP for comparison. The difference are evident in the color, the level of translucence and brilliance, and in the swirling patterns. Obviously there are variations in both natural and imitation pearl materials, but in this case I believe the difference is clear.
