Hey guys, first time posting in the Buck forum...

I'm giving my brother in law the Ghostrider for his birthday today. I wanted to get him a folder and keep it affordable. Any experience with this knife?

Also, I broke my Nighthawk while camping in August, doing some light-core batoning. I was shocked! I'm sending it back to them with my fingers crossed. I won't be using that knife for that purpose anymore, I know it shouldn't break, but I've since replaced it.

Thanks for any feedback!

I'll be interested to see what Buck has to say about the broken Nighthawk. I don't think they warranty damage caused by abuse, but knowing them, who knows.

Let us know what their reply is.

I'll keep you updated. I guess I don't think of splitting small wood with a large fixed blade abuse. Sure, I guess it is, maybe I'm spoiled. Apparently I've been 'abusing' my USA made Esee knives for a while now. I use them for bushcraft purposes, I don't abuse them in my mind at all. I call it maximizing it. At least I'm backed by a no questions asked warranty. Buck was my first pocket knife as a kid and have had a few through the years. I really like them as a company, I do wish they could keep their knives made here though.

I'll update later, putting it in the mail on monday.

Peace

ESEE fixed blades can be really abused and ESEE will replace them even if you break them on purpose. Folders are really not for batonning. Now if it had been a Vanguard and broke, that might be another story. I'm curious to see what they say too.

Paul, Buck does make the vast majority of their knives here in the US at Post Falls, ID. . Its just some of the slip locks that are foreign made . DM

Ok cool, that's good to know! Happy to hear that. The Ghostrider I bought for bro in law says China on the blade. I filed that off, it bugged me :)

Thanks for the info

That one is another . I'm not familiar with all models currently under foreign contract . But I'm certain far more are USA made from their plant in ID.. Someone more knowledgable on 'those' than me may give the models once they read this . DM

I just went through the 2010 catalog and I'll put it this way. If you just wanted to buy and collect imported Bucks, you would sure have very limited choices. Their line of fishing knives, the 37X and 38x series and a few others are imported, but they take up a very small portion of the catalog.
