My grandfather's jackknife is what I think of when I think of a man's classic pocket knife. Nothing fancy. Carbon steel. Two blades. Big enough to do anything you need, but still small enough to always be with you. I wish Case still made this model:
The only synthetic handled Case knives with CV these days are "yeller" and I am just not a fan.
Then I found this GEC:
I'd been less than satisfied with my prior GEC knives, but this one is the closest to Grandpa's I've found on a new production, non custom knife.
It's a beauty. Black micarta. Large blade has a stiff pull but it can actually be pinched open, so it is almost an easy opener. Very flat ground blade is a wicked slicer. No gaps anywhere. Not even a pinprick of light gets through. Springs flush in all positions.
It is, in truth, more knife than I need to carry.
But it reminds me of my Grandfather. So I don't mind the extra weight.
