Giving Kershaw another shot

I just ordered a Groove and a Shallot, two Kershaws that I've been thinking about getting for awhile now. I'd tried the Blackout and the Chive before and they were nice but something about them did not really quite click with me so I'm hoping the third time's the charm. I handled the Shallot before and really liked it... and I love RJ Martin's designs so the Groove should be nice. You can only be so loyal to a knife company before you start wanting to check out what else is out there... well Kershaw here I come!

Kershaw says welcome...in a Mr. Roboto kinda voice...gotta blame that on Craig Green!

Good luck carrot, I really like the groove since getting mine it has become my EDC, it's a really smooth opener and comes really sharp (like all Kershaws) out of the box, but once you start sharpening it it really is something to behold.

I know exactly what you mean, Carrot. I too just recently came back to Kershaw after straying for some time. In my case, it was my SG2 Blur that awakened me. I remembered it's stellar performance on a past camping trip, that provided me with some fond memories. I also forgot just how much I enjoy AO knives. Anyway, better late than never! ;)

Well I've given it a few days to try out both knives, and I have to say I really like the Shallot. It is a little bigger than my usual carry (Small Sebenza or Spyderco Delica or Spyderco UKPK) but it is comfortable to use and looks great too.

As for the Groove... I think mine has problems. The blade encounters a lot of resistance when it is about 2/3 open, making the flipper unreliable without a good wrist roll, and a bit over a centimeter of the blade is unsharpened where you can see the grind marks. Also, the clip is too tight but I fixed that with pliers.

Sorry to hear about your Groove carrot. Mine came out of the box great with no problems at all it has become my EDC. The good thing is if you aren't 100% happy Kershaw will make you happy so that is always an option.

also make sure to flip it a bunch because sometimes kershaws require a break in period. mine required about 2 hours of a movie and became super smooth. my friend's was buttery smooth out of the box.

Funny, I stopped buying Kershaws not because I was unhappy with them but because after a Blackout, 2 Leeks and a 0200 I figured I was set for life.

But they just keep coming out with cool new stuff to tempt us. Bad Kershaw! :D

Personally I am sorely tempted by the Ener-G (both sizes) coming out with the plain G10 scales.
