So the other day I decided to get away and try some of the gear I got over the winter. I wanted to try tarp camping so I got a cheap hardware store 8x10 and used my MSS bivy and patrol bag. I also got to use my ILBE main pack. I have used my ILBE corspman pack alot but never took the main pack out. So far I love it.

I had a good time even though the bugs were really bad around 2 am. Here are some pictures.

Nice. I just got back from camping and I'm ready to go back. Looks like fun. Can you say "Turtle soup"?

No way man. I go to this pond alot and seen this same turtle for years. If I had it my way this guy wouldn't be going anywhere.

Awesome scenery, thanks for sharing. Looks like a great place, do mind sharing which general area you are in?

Man that looks awesome and like its a great time. Thanks for sharing. I love seeing shady mountain/wooded areas on 100+ degree days, it really gets me through especially on friday.

Excellent,

I love tarp camping.

If your going to carry it on your back. I'd recommend a Sil-Nylon type from Cooke Custom Sewing or the like. Light tough and pack small. This is a 10x10.

Where is the lake? Looks like Me. or Mn.

Great pics, thanks for sharing. Don't need a thousand dollars worth of gear to get some quality dirt time do you?

that snapper is asking for some bacon! give him some! BAAAACCCCCOOOOOOOON :>

This pond is located in western Maine. I have been going here for years. It is one of my favorite places to be. The fishing is great, tons of wildlife and very quiet. I swear if I ever win the lottery I am buying all the land around it for conservation.

Lost Viking: I am looking at the bushcraft usa tarp. Got any info on that tarp? I am also looking at hammocks if anyone cares to share info on those as well.

Once again thanks guys! This place is great.

Were is all the fish?

Looks like a nice place to kick back and catch a few....

nice pics! yeah, there's a big turtle (or is it a tortoise?) in one of the lakes here too where i fish. i think everyone that grew up watching "teenage mutant ninja turtles" will have a soft spot for 'em...i'm going to be really starving to eat one.

i just got my bushcraftusa tarps (10x10 and the 5x7 "survival" one) so haven't used it yet. first impression is it's really well built - a lot of tabs and strong stitches to anchor them. campmor also has a nice 10x10 tarp but the tabs aren't stitched as loops so you'll have to either knot it or stitch it together.

Wow, great stuff dresnor, great stuff.

I liked tent/tarp camping for a while, now, the only time I sleep on the ground is when I'm doing a "survival thing" or a bushcraft event. Other than that, this fatass hillbillie sleeps in a hammock. :D

Looks like you got a little piece of heaven that broke off and fell to earth. Good call on the turtle, good to eat, but more fun to watch.

Great, great post. Stick around brother, looks like you got the chops to hang with us.
