I took a little vacation back east to hunt the Adirondacs for 5 days. Had to pack my woods gear with all the other trappings of a 2 week stay so I had to cut my usual packing list down. Left a bunch of stuff I usually like to have on a long camping trip at home. I was tossing around the idea of whether I needed my water filter or not. I decided to take it if only to show it off. Good thing I did. My brother (who had "everything I'd need") only brought about 2 gallons of drinking water with us(we were motor boating in). Needless to say it did not last long. He saw me filling the Nalgens and said something derogatory about the lake water. Later that day he drained one bottle and sipped off of the other. I kept myself and him supplied for the rest of the trip. A couple other guys drank directly from the lake and had the runs for a couple days. Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know you can't always depend on others to supply your daily needs so have a plan :)

Hey Bill,

Ya need to tell us what water filter you had taken with you?
Sounds like you had a fun trip,Did ya kill anything on the hunt?:D

I had a katadyn Hiker and 2 Nalgen bottles :) Only 1 small doe was taken but not by me :( The weather was way too hot to get the big bucks up and moving. I went expecting 40 degree days and got 75-80 :( Nice camping but horible hunting. Still all in all I am still happy I went :)

Hehe, that's pretty funny! They are lucky they didn't get something worse, and get the runs for a couple of weeks.

Good move, Bill. Paranoia is healthy.

Where did you go, Bill?
I spent a few days island camping on Indian Lake back in July. Right before I left I read an article about the amount of parsites found in supposedly pristine backcountry water. Scared me into bringing a filter and a couple of Nalgenes also.

I was up at Saranac Lake. Great place but the water and the warm weather had me wishing I'd packed my kayak. There are lots of bays and small islands to explore up there.

Saranac is beautiful. I think a kayak is the best way to see the Adirondacks.

Maybe we'll run into each other some time.:)
