Im still a noob when it comes to knives, and I kinda like it!! :o

There are a lot of jaded knife nuts out there. They've been there, seen that, got 14 of those, and sold 10 of these, wont buy that cus the steel sucks, has only got one those cus my last one broke when I tried to saw a tree in half.

Now don't misunderstand me. I know Im gonna be like that in no time at all :D But being a noob...I have so much to look forward to. I've heard a lot of people bash CRKT, and was sooo amazed at first. I thought my M16 was the best thing since sliced bread. I couldn't understand what you lot were on about, then I got my first Benchmade. It put things into perspective a bit.

So what Im trying to say(in my round about way) is: I like where I am at the mo, and REALLY look forward to the journey.

I've been into knives for about the last 40 years. Over the years I've bought some decent knives but mostly lower end stuff and some real garbage. Once I joined this forum I started to buy better knives, after getting a Kershaw Leek, an Emerson Blackbird and then my first Benchmade knife ( a 710) I was completely spoiled. Yes your right it does put things into perspective, I was going through some of my junk knives that I plan on giving away and I can't believe how some of them are put together.

But I still appreciate a well made knife even if it's not a high end knife.

Just wait until you get into traditionals...:D the last stop on a long journey.

After you go through all those, you'll get a Sebenza, then it is all over! Except, you'll decide you need a good fixed blade. You'll go through several, then you start buying Busse. This is what will finally put you into a financial crisis!

It is a fun journey.

I have only been into knives for a little less than a year, and in that time I have come very far in terms of my collection and my understanding, but the journey does not have an ending.

My first knives were flea market junk. And I liked them.

Then I got a Buck 110, Spyderco Native, Kershaw Leek, Buck 119 etc... And I liked them.

Then I got a Manix, AFCK, SERE2000, and Skirmish. And I liked them.

Then I got a Sebenza, loved it, and it got me thinking about other higher-end knives and customs. I recently got a Strider SMF, and now everything I buy is either a lower-end high-end production knife like a Spec Bump, or a high-end production knife like a Mnandi or SMF, or a user custom. My next knives are: CRK Mnandi, WH Titan Westcliff, Kershaw Spec Bump, Lone Wolf Harsey Ranger, Busse Hell Razor, Benchmade 42, Rick Hinderer Firetac...

But, while I will not spend my money on an M16 or a Delica, if someone bought me one, I would be happy with it. Even a flea market knife would make me happy. And I still enjoy my lower-end knives. I still carry my M16 sometimes, and I still carry my random junk sometimes.

I just like knives, period.

If you do get jaded with knifes or steel or whatever head over to the toolshed and learn how to increase your sharpening skills (if needed).

The best thing about being a n00b is that any time you want it, 15 new knives are released...that is to say, you can just go check out a whole different company and have all new exciting knives. Once you've seen them all a dozen times you have to wait months and months for another model you like to come out. It's less exciting.

DAMN!!! it looks like Im gonna have to find a second job to support my addiction

Man!!! The price of knives here kills me. A "low end" M16 costs me R530 and my mini grip was R685.

Where do you do your shopping Bok?

At his job;)

keep in mind that the only thing that matters is if you like it. there are a lot of people who hammer one brand or another, and they may have a good reason, but the bottom line is do you like it. If you've got a "insert brand here" and you love it and it does what you want then don't let it bother you if people post negative articles about it. another thing that's nice about knives is that there are so many types to mess with. You may start off with tactical then shift to slipjoints and end up with 15th century fruit knives. with knives there is always something new and different. good luck and get ready to spend LOTS OF MONEY. remember if you weren't buying knives you'd probably just spend it on things like, food, gas, etc. later, ahgar

Crispy: WELCOME!!! Say buh-bye to your money now!! It will save you pain down the road. DO get yourself a Delica 4 or Endura 4!!

Ahhhhhhh Crispy, you are hooked.
It's a slippery slope from here on.
:D

My first knife was a buck ranger with the finger grooves. Life was good. Id pick up a a few SAK's here and there becuase I like the different models and options the tools have and I thought they were very reliable for EDC. Then I found this forum. My journey didnt begin here but this forum has sparked a renewed interest in knives. I started to understand the diffences in quality and what to look for. I inhereted some old hunting knives and learned on this forum how to bring back a mirror polish to a pitted rusty looking blade.

I bought a Spyderco S30v Native. (I feel that this was the best knife I have ever bought) I have been drooling over Mandi's and such but I have not got to that stop on the journey yet. But along the way the people here have taught me a lot and opened my eyes to makes and models that I may not have looked at before.

I'd like to thank everyone here for all their contributions both positive and negative. And I have to agree with the person that started this post. It is good to be a noob. Having places like this forum to reference when buying a knife helps you make a more informed decision.

Thanks again everyone.
