All guys know we need DD protection... its just not fair.

I was messing around, having fun with some cord and I think it came out kinda cool, but I want your opinion.

nicely tied d guards, but for me, it takes something away from the straight lines and point of the gladius. Just my opinion, but if i had one, I don't think i would add a d guard to it.

you could figure out how to do a basket weave to bridge the gap in your second photo so that you have a complete basket hilt/gaurd, it would be very awesome. That type of double guard set up doesn't serve a distinct purpose that I can think of but a basket hilt significantly reduces the chance of knuckle scratches when clearing brambles and the likes.

and now I'm now I'm trying of a way to make a leather basket hilt...

if you pull them both over each other and then slip your hand through the interconnection, does it increase grip stability when using a loose grip?

You're right, a lot of the appeal of the Gladius to me is the similarity to the original Roman design. Forming a bilateral basket makes it look a little more like a Spanish main gauche.

I was thinking about a full basket, if you do one I would love to see the pictures.

The second grip is excellent for a two handed grip. Another thing I found out is that it would really help when penetrating/removing the blade. It would help keep your hand oriented and make sure you don't accidentally slip your hand over the blade. I found the smooth g-10 to not be exceptionally grippy...

The guards aren't loose enough to cross them over and slip my hand through, I see what you're saying though.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I always thought that a nice, stiff, paracord guard or possible one made of metal would look pretty good. Kind of a mix between a Roman Gladius and a Japanese Kyu gunto.
