Gladius grips: Smooth vs. machined

Can any owners or users of the Busse Gladius give me their opinion on the pros and cons of the smooth vs machined grips as it is specific to the gladuis?

I own smooth handled Busses and machined, but I guess my question lay in how each feel with that big of a blade as I have never held a Busse Gladius. Is the machined necessary for a secure grip, or is it balanced well enough that the comfortable smooth grips are the worth the extra buck? I don't plan on fighting any hordes but I would like to do it right the first time.

Yo Bro dont think they ever made em with machined scales. Either smooth micarta/g10 or some pretty cuStom stuff. Pretty sure not positive tho.
