Gladius opinions

Hello all,

I have been looking at the various Gladius styles that are available, Generation 2, Kris Cutlery......... was wondering what the consensus is among the members here. I recently ordered a Manjushree from HI since it reminded me of a Gladius and I like their product. Opinions please.

Thanks for the input but that appears to be a 10 inch blade, not quite what I was thinking of, a handsome blade though.

Both the Gen2 and Kris versions are supposedly tougher than hell, though none of them are totally historically accurate. There are reviews of both brands here http://sbgswordforum.proboards70.com/index.cgi and here http://www.sword-buyers-guide.com/index.html. I hope these help you out.

If you're looking for something gladius-like for frequent use, I've heard lots of good things about the Condor Combat Machete. You can get one for about $35, and they're actually quite tough despite having 420 HC blades. Here is a thread from the Scrapyard forums that has a little bit about its performance. Other than that, Windlass and Hanwei of CAS Iberia also make a few semi-historical gladius of fair quality.

Just as a by the by I noted that there is a KC gladius for sale over in the classifeds at SFI at the moment.
