Gladius Sword

I love its noir visage and black leather scabbard.

What I really enjoy is that you captured the simplicity of the Gladius sword the way the average soldier/Citizen would of most likely had with similar accents of style. Most over do them. There is a special beauty in simplicity.

I hadn't clicked through and looked at the price until today, but it's very reasonable. This will be a good deal for someone, I'm sure.

That's really beautiful work, Mr Crawford! Do you regularly hilt bare blades, or was that a favor for your friend/neighbor? Have you ever done a basket hilt, let's say, for a cutlass?

Thanks very much. This was my first time doing a sword project. I've never done a basket hilt but it would be an interesting undertaking.

D. Crawford, i really like the simple elegance of your gladius. is the pommel welded on or threaded?

Thanks very much. Neither welded or threaded. I've had several inquiries about how I mounted the pommel so rather than type a long description, here's a pic.

The tang has "shoulders" near the end so I formed the middle layer of the pommel to ride on those shoulders. This way I could anneal & peen the tang without
stressing & cracking the handle material. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
David
