Gladius vs AK

AK

lighter/ faster

But the Gladius is cool too.

If I had to chose I'd take the AK. The longer blade gives you better reach in case of zombie attacks. Furthermore, I always prefer single edged blades for safety reasons. However, If in your country zombies carry body armor you might prefer the gladius for its superior armor piercing capabilities...

Dave is right!

The AK is more practical in most situations, but the Gladius is more fun to use, almost gives an adrenaline rush when the chips start flying! :D

Bad cell phone comparison pic from last year in the hotel room at AG Russell. And no, that's not a satin Gladius, just a stripped and buffed CG.

I want a Gladius to go with my AK (not going to happen) but if I had to chhose it'd be my AK because I like to baton, scrap, and other chores that are more easily done if one side isn't sharp. But both would be cool.

I would love to get another AK but competition finish this time. I wish all models were offered that way as a possible option because I use everything I buy so they get beat up rather quickly. No point in paying extra for "pretty". :D

TL, I completely agree... the decarb-less competition finish is a highly effective low maintenance and durable finish and yet rarely offered... tis a shame. It's my favorite finish to have done to my cg keepers either professionally or on my own. I was very happy with how the project with the Gladius turned out and all I need to do is tackle convexing the edges (or at least one) one of these days.

AZTimT: That is a great looking chunk of INFI. Excellent job on that bad boy. How's the balance? Is it front heavy like a chopper or more balanced for quickness?

It's surprisingly well balanced I think due in part to the use of the heavier G10 that is really thick on it and the flared out knob of INFI in the pommel. It's a great chopper though at 2 1/2 lbs and super stout, but definitely not as fast as either of the other two INFI swords. If I were to change anything on it for real world use I wish that the edges weren't sharpened all the way back for a place to use a second hand in some applications. IE a hand + sized choil on both edges since I have yet to need to use the edge that far back and have needed a little extra leverage to pull it out of a chunk of wood. It would double for a decent location to baton as well.

Sorry for posting a dumb question; but, what does decarb-less refer too? It would seem that no coating is the way to go unless you need to conceal the knife. Corrosion has never been more than a cosmetic issue for me so far. A marred up coating would be harder on the eyes than stained carbon steel IMOP.

I would like to thank liukang187 for bringing the competitive finish to my attention.

I don't have an AK but I do have a Waki and Scrapizashi and they are much more useful than my Gladius. That being said, nothing quite compares to it when I have the Gladius in hand. Makes me want to don a hockey mask and start swinging at cinderblocks.

Decarb is a rust prone layer of metal left over from heat treat. Combat Grade knives get it covered up so it isn't notice much, but the early Competition Finish knives (Sarsquatch, Jackhammer, any else?) still had it and the tended to rust up. It is fairly easy to fix with a scotchbrite pad and some elbow grease. The newer CF knifes get bead blasted to remove that layer.

New here...kind of, but I have a need for both. My first chunk of money will probably be spent on a KZ though. Something about that curved blade speaks to me. Will have to work on the others over time.

Everyones gotta start somewhere! Im at three now which is nothing compared to some guys. Get what you can and youll be awesome haha.
