Been looking at my 0560 and 0550 lately and thought about how they are 2 of my favorite EDC knives, however I still really love my Ontario RAT-1 with its shape and feel, and not to mention how it makes a nice "attitude adjuster" when held closed. Got me to thinking, has anyone ever come across a Steel/Ti glass breaker back spacer (has a nice but long ring haha) for a 0550/0560? I would think since the measurements of the 2 bottom screws on the knives are damn near the same they'd be interchangeable but even if it's only for 1 specifically I'd be interested to see what they look like, how you like em' how effective they are, and where you got em. Post some pics if you got em'.

have a safe sunday!

I've always wondered what was the purpose of a glass breaker (besides the obvious?) Wouldn't the Ti or G-10 on the butt make quick work of any glass needing breaking? Not being pretentious, just wondering how a nib improves things?

Not really. Car glass is actually harder than steel on the Mohs hardness scale. Not stronger, just harder. Take a look on YouTube and you'll find countless videos with people trying to smash car windows with hammers, Maglites, batons, etc. and failing miserably at it.

The trick is to strike it with a small point that'll focus all the energy, that'll cause it to shatter. A tungsten carbide breaker is harder than glass and will make short work of any car window, except the front one that is laminated. It'll break, but it won't shatter.

So there is a point with them.

Haven't seen such a backspacer. But I've often thought about drilling a small hole in the ti side and inserting a small tungsten carbide breaker. That would work fine I think.
